When you think of a countryside barn venue, images of rustic hessian, barrel tables, and mason jars often come to mind. However, at the newly converted barn space at Barnfield Weddings , we set out to prove that traditional timber architecture can offer a sleek, design-led canvas for the ultra-modern couple.
As a planner and designer, I absolutely loved conceptualising and designing this shoot. Barnfield is a venue that is incredibly close to my heart- it's a location I genuinely love being at, and it's somewhere I'm always eager to promote because it quite literally has everything. Blending the rich charm of its newly converted timber barn with expansive surrounding fields, a peaceful lake, and a tranquil countryside atmosphere, it gives couples an immersive, close-to-nature feeling without sacrificing any of the comfort, cover, or structural practicalities of a modern venue. My primary goal for this editorial was to show couples that you can still have an insanely elegant, sophisticated design in a rustic countryside setting. I was completely thrilled with how all of the aesthetic elements came together so seamlessly to demonstrate the natural, beautiful flow of a wedding day at Barnfield.
One of my favourite aspects of this project was bringing together such an exceptionally talented group of wedding professionals. Truly great editorial shoots happen when you give expert suppliers the creative freedom to interpret individual elements within a clear, cohesive framework.
By establishing a defined lead concept from the start, every supplier was empowered to bring their best ideas to the table. On the day, it was all about guiding those individual creative pieces together so the overall flow felt seamless, intentional, and beautifully aligned.
Our aesthetic was refined, minimalist, and intentionally contemporary—favouring clean lines over rustic clutter to create a striking visual contrast against the raw warmth of the venue’s wooden beams.
Set within the side barn, the ceremony took full advantage of the sweeping openings framing the stone patio and lush fields beyond. Natural light flooded the space, illuminating clean-lined seating and the architectural beauty of the space. At the front, Helen Sheard Floral Designs created a breathtaking backdrop, framing the couple with four clean white plinths topped with delicate, whimsical arrangements. Surrounded by soft white drapes, these sustainable, seasonal displays filled with wispy white stems created a striking contrast against the exposed brickwork of the barn- balancing structural elegance with warm romance without cluttering the clean lines.
Transitioning outdoors to embrace the venue's natural beauty, the open-air patio became a chic, upscale "outdoor room" framed by views of the fields, woodland and lake. Featuring elegant lounging furniture, tables, and crisp cream parasols from Stories Event Hire, the space provided an effortless setting for guests to relax and socialise in the mid-summer sun, while staying connected to the surrounding countryside.
Inside the main converted barn, I styled the wedding breakfast using crisp, heavy white linens offset by modern tableware, sleek charger plates, and polished glassware sourced from Party Squared. Delicately placed in the centre of the tables, whimsical floral arrangements by Helen Sheard Floral Designs brought soft, organic texture to the tablescape. We scattered an assortment of glass candlesticks amongst the florals to add height, elegance, and—by night, a warm, intimate glow.
Crisp white napkins were styled in an elegant waterfall arrangement draping off the charger plates, topped with the menu and place name stationery by Studio L.E.L, whose high-fashion typography anchored each setting.
Framing the dining area, we brought the stylish patio furniture indoors to create an inviting, relaxed lounge space within the barn, while a sleek, tiered white cake from Crumbs to Creations, featuring elegant, sophisticated ruffle layers, completed the monochrome aesthetic.
Steering clear of traditional lace or rustic tweed, our bride wore a striking, form-focused gown in smooth crepe from The Bridal Loft, featuring clean, contemporary necklines. Paired with architectural pieces from Coo Jewellers, a sharp tailored suit from Dapper Chaps, and soft, radiant beauty by Makeup by Stephanie, the overall aesthetic was effortlessly chic.
A design concept is only as strong as the team capturing it, and Emotional Wedding Photography alongside Shot by JR brought this entire vision to life on camera. With a keen eye for editorial framing and movement, they documented the play of natural light through the barn's expansive openings, the intricate textures of the tablescapes, and the candid, romantic energy between our models. Their editorial, documentary-style approach preserved every subtle detail and nuance, offering couples a true visual blueprint of how a wedding day at Barnfield seamlessly flows from ceremony to sunset.
