Inspiring Summer Wedding Ideas

Inspiring Summer Wedding Ideas

28 April 2024

If you’re looking for some Summer Wedding Inspiration then look no further, as I’ll be exploring some of the best Summer Wedding ideas to make your Wedding the highlight of the season!

XXXX - Camellio Wedding Planning and Events - Essex Wedding Planner
  1. Have an outdoor ceremony… but if you can’t be outside, bring the outdoors in. Choose a venue with lots of glass to give the effect of being outside - conservatories and orangeries work well. Where ever you choose, make sure the room is bright and airy with plenty of natural, summertime sun!

If you do choose to stick with an outdoor ceremony, always have a backup plan … we do live in Britain after all and the sun isn’t guaranteed, even in summer time. Tipis, marquees and stretch tents are great options to keep your Wedding outdoors, but keep you sheltered from the elements.

  2. Have a festival style Wedding for a true Summer vibe. And what better way than with your very own tipi!

  3. Create a romantic walkway, telling the journey of your love… a beautiful way for your guests to reach your outdoor ceremony location. Include photos, memories and signs to tell your story, as you lead your guests to their destination.

  4. Summer Wedding cool floaty wedding dress - Camellio Wedding Planning and Events - Essex Wedding Planner

  5. Let your Wedding dress reflect the season, with cool, floaty gowns… maybe even bare a little skin, or embrace a sheer look, for a summertime tone. Choose a dress with a detachable skirt and remove it for the reception- two dresses in one and you still keep cool on a sunny afternoon. Alternatively, consider a tea length dress to keep your look on season.

Don’t forget the shoes… choose a comfy pair that won’t sink into the lawn, whilst remaining stylish!

  6. Summer wedding colour palette - Camellio Wedding Planning and Events - Essex Wedding Planner

  7. Embrace the colours of Summer.

The joy of summer colour is that pretty much anything goes! But take the opportunity to utilise some colours that just seem too bright and daring for Spring or Autumn- think corals with a contrasting turquoise, tropical tones with yellow, orange and a splash of green or seaside blues.

If a vibrant palette isn’t really your thing, embrace the pastel shades to give a softer nod to the Summer season. With a more delicate Summer palette, you’ll be able to incorporate a greater variety of colours without worrying about clashing! Blush, sage and pale blue, always complement each other perfectly for an elegant Summer event.

There really is no limit to a Summer colour palette, so see where your imagination takes you.

  8. Braided hair is a go-to for summer Weddings. Not only will you rock the boho chic Summer vibe, but you’ll also avoid sweaty hair sticking to you on a hot Summers day!

  9. Summer Wedding LIght coloured linen grooms suits - Camellio Wedding Planning and Events - Essex Wedding Planner

  10. Choose lighter, brighter suits for the Grooms and the Groomsmen… not only in colour but in fabric too. Suits in cream, sage and duck egg blue can look just as smart in the Summer months, as dark suits do all of the rest of the year- so embrace the Summer tones and complement your Wedding colour scheme. Think too about the fabric you choose- opt for a lighter, linen- type suit to keep you cool and collected on the big day.

  11. Summer Wedding prepare for the weather - Camellio Wedding Planning and Events - Essex Wedding Planner

  12. Prepare for all weathers… including plenty of water, shade and suncream for a heatwave and an umbrella for those summer showers. You might even consider pairing some colour matched wellies for the Wedding Party, so you can make the most of your day and embrace the weather!

If it’s a heatwave that you’re contending with, avoid the hottest part of the day and keep the dress code lighter. Have some parasols on hand that are matched to your colour theme, to give your guests some shade… they can also make a super cute photo opportunity! Alternatively provide sun hats, sunglasses and fans to protect your guests from the rays- they’d make fabulous Wedding favours too.

If you’re expecting extreme weather, be sure to have air conditioning units (or heaters!) on hand and supply your guests with plenty of water… garnish with fresh fruit to keep it fun and flavoursome!

  13. You can’t have a Summer Wedding without a bit of bunting! If you’re feeling creative, get your Bridal Party together for a bunting party and make your own! If bunting’s not really your thing, how about getting inspired with brightly coloured pompoms?! You could use them to decorate the aisle, as table centres, hang them from ceilings or around doorways…. Let your imagination run wild!

  14. Embrace the tropics and create a fruity or tropical leaf tablescape. You could write your guests’ names on a palm leaf and it could double as their place card.

  16. Al Fresco dining is a beautiful and romantic opportunity to dine under the stars on your Wedding day. Surround yourselves with fairy lights and candles to create a wonderful atmosphere as you continue your day into the evening, after the sun has set.

Complement your outdoor dining experience with an al fresco bar. Make use of an old dresser to display glasses and drinks for a fun and quirky bar.

  17. Give your guests come creature comforts and the opportunity to freshen up with a relief station, including all those little extras that your guests may not have thought to bring… such as suncream, insect repellent & hand sanitiser. If you’re intending to display this in the bathroom, include some extras such as deodorant, mints, hair bands/clips, hairspray and a cooling spritz.

  18. Embrace the outdoors with some garden games to keep you guests amused at the reception. Grab a paddling pool too- you can either use it to cool off some warm feet or enjoy a game of “hook-a-duck”!

  20. Summer time is an opportunity to embrace some alternatives to the traditional confetti. Whether you choose natural petals from seasonal flowers, olive leaves or eco-friendly bubbles, your “confetti” shot will be one to remember.

  21. Give your guests a shaded seating area to relax and cool off away from the sun. Why not set up an outdoor lounge area with comfy sofas and rugs, for a rest and a chat before heading back to the dance floor!

  22. Flip flops! A golden oldie, but a god send at a hot, Summer Wedding!

  24. Flowers can and will create the wow factor at any Wedding and with Summer being the big flower season, embrace flowers in their every form. Whether you choose to scatter petals down the aisle, adorn your venue with urns overspilling with summer blooms, install a hanging floral installation to dine under, or create the perfect backdrop to your “I do’s” with a flower arch filled to bursting with Summer blooms, nothing screams a Summer Wedding more than flowers overflowing from every corner!

Whether you choose, muted pastels, elegant white or a bold, splash of colour, your flower choices can compliment your theme in so many ways, to make your Wedding a very floral, Summer affair!

Flowers such as lavender, peonies, roses and wisteria, to name a few, are the epitome of Summer… and you wouldn’t want your Summer Wedding Flower Installation, without them! Choose Seasonal, locally grown blooms to really bring the Summer season to your Wedding.

For a Mediterranean floral installation, consider using potted fruit trees (think orange, lemon and lime), paired with rosemary and roses for a display that can keep on giving (you could even give them as gifts to your special guests!).

Remember to give your flowers plenty of water on a hot Summers day to avoid drooping and wilting! Succulents are the perfect option for statement, heat-resistant floral décor.

  26. If you’re not a big fan of flowers, why not consider balloons for a fun and playful Wedding décor. Whether you choose to stick with white, for a clean and sophisticated look or go all out rainbow for a fun and whimsical vibe, balloons can be a great option for a Summer Wedding.

  27. Embrace the Summer floral theme with, floral stationery. Whether that’s incorporating a floral illustration or design, dried flowers pressed into the paper, wildflower seed paper or a mini posy to accompany your place settings, incorporating flowers into your stationery, will give a Summer vibe, from the moment your guests receive their invitations!

Dual purpose stationery takes your paper-goods to the next level- why not use folded menus or place cards, that double up as a fan!

  28. Incorporate some Summer flavours into your Wedding food and drink and plan a seasonal menu. Why not go a step further and have an ice cream van or a slushy machine… did you know that Frosé (frozen rosé) was even a thing?! … And you can’t go wrong with a customised signature cocktail for your special day!

Incorporate lots of fresh fruit and vegetables into your Wedding meals to keep the menus light, why not opt for a BBQ, picnic or afternoon tea for a real Summer vibe!

  30. Lights, lights, lights!

An absolute must at any time of year, but with warm, balmy evenings, you’ll want to make the most of the great outdoors at a Summer Wedding. Set-up festoon lights and fairy lights in your outdoor spaces, to keep the party going into the night. Consider al fresco dining, under a canopy of a thousand twinkling lights!
