In 2026, one of my absolute favourite trends is the rise of the "Heritage Fusion" wedding. There is something incredibly moving about watching two distinct cultures weave together to create a day that is entirely unique.

A perfect example of this is the Chinese-English fusion wedding. It’s a beautiful balancing act—blending the timeless elegance of a traditional English celebration with the vibrant, ancient rituals of Chinese heritage.

While the exchange of rings often takes centre stage in an English ceremony, the Chinese Tea Ceremony is the emotional heartbeat of a multicultural day.

• The Meaning: This isn’t just about serving tea; it’s a formal introduction to the family. It represents respect, gratitude, and the literal union of two families.

• The Ritual: Typically, the couple kneels before their parents and elders, serving sweet tea (often flavoured with red dates and lotus seeds for luck and fertility). In return, they receive "Lai See" (red envelopes) or gold jewellery — symbols of protection and prosperity for their new life together.
• The Integration: Many of my couples are now bringing the Tea Ceremony into the main wedding venue! By setting up a dedicated "Heritage Corner" with a "Double Happiness" backdrop, you can share this beautiful tradition with all your guests, bridge the cultural gap, and create a stunning visual moment.

Planner Tip: If you're planning a fusion day, don't feel you have to choose one over the other. You can wear a classic white gown for the civil ceremony and change into a stunning red Cheongsam for the tea ceremony and evening reception!
