What’s the difference between a save the date and a Wedding invitation?
A common question we hear is, what actually is the difference between a “Save the Date” and a “Wedding Invitation”… wonder no more!
Your save the Dates are there to share the news of your upcoming Wedding. They will include the day and location of your Wedding, so that your guests can literally, “Save the Date”! But don’t expect to receive an RSVP- that follows the formal Wedding Invitation.
Your Wedding Invitation will include more information, such as the Wedding Ceremony venue, time and date; the reception venue, time and date; the dress code; menu choices; accommodation details and directions to name just a few. You’ll want to include an RSVP card with your Wedding invitation to ensure your guests let you know if they can attend- whether that be via post, e-mail or via your Wedding Website.
Keep and eye on the Time
Work backwards from your Wedding date to work out your timelines for ordering, sending & receiving your Wedding Stationery.
Give yourself enough time to order your stationery, make amendments, go to print and assemble your Wedding Invitations- don’t rush, or inevitably something will be forgotten or mistakes will happen. If you’re planning on addressing your invitations and envelopes yourself, do it in stages- it will help you to concentrate and avoid making careless mistakes. Collect full names and addresses for each of your guests before doing this too, to prevent any delay in sending your invites.
Send your Save the Dates and Wedding Invitations in good time to give your guests plenty of time to make plans and arrangements to attend your Wedding- as well as making sure that as many people as possible can attend your Wedding. This is particularly true of destination Weddings. Think too about deadlines for informing the caterer of final numbers and menu choices, arranging printing of place cards and seating plans- guest responses will be required before any of these things can happen.
