So, what is the difference between an Independent Wedding Planner and a Venue Coordinator? It’s a question that comes up time and time again and you can understand where the confusion arises! Both will work hard to ensure that your Wedding Day runs smoothly and there are certainly some similarities and overlaps in the roles. However, there are many, huge differences too!

In simple terms, a Venue Coordinator is provided by your Wedding venue as an ambassador between the venue’s on-site operations team and yourselves. A Venue Coordinator works for the venue and ultimately protects the interests of the venue. That’s not to say that they won’t help you immensely when planning and facilitating your Wedding, as they will be an invaluable source of information about what does and doesn’t work at your venue, as well as assisting with coordination on the day. But essentially, they manage the venue and its associated interests.

Perhaps most importantly, you can choose which Independent Wedding Planner you want to work with and it’s important that the relationship works for both of you. You need your planner to understand your vision, you need to be able to talk to them and above all, you need to trust them. Likewise, your Wedding Planner needs to be able to be able to tell you if you need to consider different options, or to reign in ideas if they’re getting a little too extravagant. They need to be able to be honest with you. Two-way trust and communication are the most important things, which is why you should take your time when choosing your Wedding Planner- meet them, talk to them and make sure you bond.

A Wedding Planner has a deep involvement in your Wedding Day and a great responsibility to bring your Wedding Day together. Each of your suppliers will be experts in their own trade and will be responsible for making sure that the service they provide is the absolute best. An Independent Wedding Planner is able to connect all of those dots and draw them together to bring your Wedding vision to life. They will ensure on the day, that everything and everyone if where they are meant to be, at the time they are meant to be and doing what they are meant to be doing!
